A Guide to B.C.’s Personal Information Protection Act
What information do we collect?
We collect the information you provide on your application form: your name, email address, mailing address, contact phone number, waterfront or semi-waterfront street address, waterfront or semi-waterfront street or town, the area of the Columbia Shuswap Regional District your waterfront or semi-waterfront lot is in, and how many people are on title of your waterfront or semi-waterfront property.
We do not collect credit card information.
Filling out the membership application form is consent for us to collect the above information.
Why do we need to collect your personal information?
So we can send you the SWOA Newsletter, let you know about developments we feel may be of interest to you, and let you know when your membership fees are due.
So we can tally up the number of members SWOA represents.
To confirm your waterfront or semi-waterfront ownership as a requirement for membership when you apply to join.
When do we disclose personal information?
We would only disclose personal information if required under PIPA. An example would be to comply with the courts of law.
How do we protect your personal information?
We protect your personal information with appropriate computer security safeguards and backups, offsite storage of all pertinent computer information and shredding of any paper that contains sensitive information. We delete your personal information when you advise SWOA that you are no longer a member.
We will protect the confidentiality of your personal information when dealing with other organizations.
Only the President, Treasurer, Membership Board Director, and Board Director responsible for the web site have access to your personal information.
What are your choices?
We will honour any request you may make for access to your personal information.
We will assume that we have your consent to collect and use the personal information that you provide us on your application for the purposes identified above.
You can refuse or withdraw your consent; however, this may limit SWOA's ability to serve you, or your ability to be a SWOA member.
